Be Friendly to the Environment
Recently, I spent two weeks in Singapore to relieve the stress from school. There were so many wonderful places to visit, such as the plant park, the zoo, and a recycling factory. The recycling factory was especially impressive, as they made all the waste processing procedures open to the public. We could clearly see how trash is handled and eventually recycled. The factory was spotless, and the owner explained to me that Singapore widely uses a type of plastic called disposable or single-use plastic, which offers great benefits to the public.
First and foremost, disposable plastic is cheaper than many other plastics on the market. For example, if a bottle is made of regular plastic, it might cost 10 RMB, but a bottle made from disposable plastic may only cost 6 RMB. Therefore, using disposable plastic can help reduce costs for certain facilities and businesses. This cost reduction can, in turn, lead to increased production and contribute slightly to economic growth.
Moreover, disposable plastic is convenient and free of harmful chemicals. For instance, when we use disposable plastic plates or bowls, we can simply throw them away after use, saving time and effort. For someone like me, who isn’t fond of washing dishes, this is the perfect solution! Additionally, while traditional plastics can contain harmful chemicals that may affect our health, disposable plastic is designed to be safer. People in Singapore have been using this type of plastic for over ten years, and I only wish I had known about it sooner!
In Singapore, environmental responsibility is taken seriously. Even littering outside a trash can is met with criticism, which is something my own country could improve upon. Many people don’t pay enough attention to environmental issues, and if this continues, it could have serious negative effects. Back to the topic—although disposable plastic is not biodegradable, Singapore’s recycling system ensures that all plastic is recycled and reused, which reduces its environmental drawbacks.
Through my experience in Singapore, I’ve come to realize the importance of protecting the environment. When discarding waste, we should follow proper trash sorting guidelines. Even small actions, when taken collectively, can make a big difference. If you’re interested in learning more about the recycling process or disposable plastics, I highly recommend visiting Singapore. Good luck if you decide to go! And feel free to share your thoughts with me in the comments if today’s topic caught your interest.
